EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday China is willing to help Belgium overcome the current shortage of medical supplies within its capacity.
Xi, in a telephone conversation with King Philippe of Belgium, also said China is ready to share useful COVID-19 prevention and control experience with the European country, and promote cooperation in vaccine and medicine joint research and development, and other areas.
Xi pointed out the coronavirus epidemic is spreading globally and that Europe including Belgium faces a severe challenge. On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi extended his sincere sympathies and firm support to the Belgian royal family, government and people.
Xi expressed his confidence that under the leadership of the Belgian royal family and government, the Belgian people will definitely be able to defeat the epidemic. Xi also expressed his hope that Belgium can attach great importance to and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, especially overseas students, in Belgium.
Xi stressed the Chinese side appreciates the king’s efforts to actively promote the development of China-Belgium relations and is willing to to work with Belgium to overcome the impact of the epidemic, advance cooperation in various fields, and promote the development of China-Belgium and China-EU relations.
For his part, King Philippe said the current pandemic is striking the world but China has taken the lead in controlling it and China’s experience in this regard can be learned by other countries.
Regarding China as a true friend of Belgium, the king said he will always cherish this friendship and continue to actively promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
