EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: An old woman who testified before the truth-seeking commission at its public hearing in Jambur, on Gambia’s former President Yahya Jammeh’s 2009 witch-hunting exercise, Wednesday morning told the Commission that witch doctors forced her into a vehicle and took her to Kololi where she was forced to drink a concoction.
Ma Sirreh Bojang, in her 90s said she was selling peanut at a shop in Jambur when the witch doctors arrived and asked her to stand up and board the vehicle. “When I asked them why I should board the car, they just forced me in and took me off. I could not tell who they were and where they were from.”
Mrs Bojang said when they reached Kololi, they were again forcefully given a concoction to drink, saying since then she couldn’t get her health back and has been suffering from the consequences of the portion. “We were made to sit under a mango tree, where there was a big hole with water in it but I cannot tell what the water was for.”
Mrs Bojang further said after drinking that concoction, she suddenly developed stomach pain which she is suffering from. “Since I returned home the following day, I could not stand the pain, and my family took me to the hospital where I was given two injections but they have no impact on my health.”
According to her, after the exercise she could not do anything, not even going to the farm or sell her peanuts again.
