“As we speak, we have been sacked by the media based on the article published on the Fatu Network yesterday,” Mr Jarju said.

The angry staff organised the Wednesday press conference on a petition that they filed against their Director General, Zainab Jallow for what they called her bad leadership.

Mrs Jallow also told Eyeafrica this evening that the Authority will be taking disciplinary actions against the staff based on The Gambia civil service rules but said no staff has been given the matching order yet. “We are in consultation with the board and our line ministry. We will call a press conference but that will be after ever action is taken,” Mrs Jallow said.

Director General Zainab Jallow said appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against the petitioners according to Civil Service rules

FSQA is established by the Food Safety and Quality Act, 2011 under the Office of the Vice President. It is the sole National Competent Authority with powers of delegation mandated to officially control the safety and quality of all foods (including water and beverages) and animal feed whether locally produced, imported or destined for export.

During the press conference, the staff alleged that promotion at FSQA is based on nepotism, as keeping a good relationship with the DG means likely to be promoted and not based on efficiency and productivity. He said 22 out of the 32 staff that signed the petition are issued with Administrative leave without Salary due to their solidarity to fight corruption and Weak leadership tactics in the office.
