Muhammed Manjang has rejected his redeployment to the Senegalo-Gambian Permanent Secretariat as its Executive Secretary after he was removed as Director General of the Social Security & Housing Finance Corporation.
His redeployment came along with that of nine Permanent Secretaries last week.
Manjang was replaced by the Director General of The Gambia Public Procurement Authority Abdoulie Tambadou.
In a letter widely circulation on Social media, Mr Manjang justified to the Secretary General at the Office of the President that his training, professional experience and skills are in finance, management and control of financial institutions.
He argued that he would not be doing justice to the government or himself in taking up a role that requires diplomacy and or expertise in foreign affairs.
Manjang has been head of the Social Security and Housing Finance Cooporation since March 2017 during which he boosted of cutting down cost from 271 million in 2016 to 148 million dalasi in 2019 with operation profit from 1.5 million in 2016 to 138 million dalasi in 2019.
It could be recalled that Muhammed Manjang was suspended pending on a fact finding into tension between him and staff of the Social Security in 2018.
The 6-member panel headed was constituted following a protest by more than 200 staff of the institution who demanded the removal of their managing director over allegations of corruption, nepotism and financial malpractice.
