Veteran Gambian musician, teacher and cultural icon, Mam Tamsir Njie Dies aged 64

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA:- A veteran Gambian musician, teacher and cultural icon, Mam Tamsir Njie has Died, Gambian Musicians Union announced on Wednesday.

Njie died Wednesday morning, aged 64.

“We extend our condolences to the family and the entire Gambian music fraternity in this sorrowful moment,” the union said in a statement.

Mam Tamsir Njie, a renowned Gambian artist, who also worked as a Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education in Banjul started singing since in the early 60s.

The well-known Gambian musician was one of the highest rated music performers in Senegambian region.

With a career spanning many years, Mam Tamsir Njie has released many albums and was also credited for his immense contribution to the promotion of music in The Gambia.

He was award by former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh during the 5th Kanilai International Cultural Festival for being a champion performer of Gambian music.
