EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: University of The Gambia (UTG) has inaugurated Confucius institute, a Chinese language programme as a course at the University on Tuesday.
The move was described by the vice president of the university’s Student Union, Fatoumatta Zahra Jallow, as a manifestation of the excellent bond of friendship between The Gambia and the Peoples’ Republic of China, saying it would avail Gambians the opportunity to learn Chinese language and promote cross cultural fertilization.
Currently, over 530 Confucius institutes and 1129 Confucius classrooms in primary and middle schools in 155 countries and regions have been erected.
Now branded as a global educational community, the Confucius institute takes Chinese language teaching and the promotion of cultural exchanges all over the world as its responsibilities.
