EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Kanifing Municipal Council –KMC- has announced the appointment of Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Political Science Lecturer at The University of The Gambia as Policy Adviser.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda confirmed willingness of one of Gambia’s ‘controversial’ political analysts “to donate time and services to the council. “He has agreed to donate his time and services to my office (volunteer basis)!”
In August last year, Dr. Ceesay was quoted on record calling Adama Barrow a ‘clueless’ president, a case to which Mr Barrow launched a personal response during a state-organised press conference.
Mayor Bensouda expressed hope that Dr Ceesay would bring tools and policy platforms for more effective dispensation of the mayoral mandate.
Dr Ceesay came into the limelight following his arrest and subsequent charges with ‘inciting violence’ as a result of interview he granted to Voce Newspaper in February 2018.
He discouraged further extension of the mandate of the ECOWAS military forces in the Gambia but public outcry led to his unconditional release by police.
Sworn in May 2018 after his election victory under the ticket of United Democratic Party, Mr Bensouda is serving a five-year in the most lucrative local government office in the country.
