EYEAFRICA TV: New York, USA: Barely three days after the killing of Razan al-Najjar, a member of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) by Israeli forces on Friday, the United Nations Monday expressed outrage over the killing of the 21-year-old woman volunteering as a first responder.
Speaking to reporters earlier on Monday, Secretary General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric affirmed that al-Najjar was “carrying out her humanitarian duties with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society” when she was killed and three other people in her team injured.
Dujarric quoted Humanitarian Coordinator Jamie McGoldrick as saying that “healthcare workers must be allowed to perform their duties without fear of death or injury,” adding that “the killing of a clearly-identified medical staffer by security forces during a demonstration was particularly reprehensible.
The 21-year-old woman according to reports was hit by live ammunition fired by Israeli forces while trying, with other first responders, to reach those injured during Friday’s demonstrations against Israeli policies in Gaza, dubbed the ‘the Great March of Return.
