EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Ousainou Darboe, leader of The United Democratic Party has donated ideas to stimulate government’s efforts in the prevention of coronavirus that is currently spreading across the world.
The COVID-19 is yet to be confirm in the Gambia, according to the minister of health but confirmation of twenty cases in neighboring Senegal puts the Gambia at high risk of the disease.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe said the declaration of the outbreak as a global pandemic by the World health organization WHO calls for proactive and decisive strategies.
He calls on the government to set up a national emergency response team consisting of government and non-governmental organizations, and public health partners to assess the level of preparedness in dealing with the outbreak.
He also outlined his party’s plans to support the government in any intervention or measures to combat the pandemic coronavirus.
Mr Darboe encouraged the media to partner with government and civil society to create awareness platforms for the public on the coronavirus.
He advised the public to accept all precautionary measures shared by the ministry of health, WHO and other authoritative health professionals on the crusade.
