EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Impeccable sources have confirmed to Eye Africa that the United Democratic Party (UDP) Thursday expelled about eight of its members, including key figures. We could not yet confirm the circumstances that led to the expulsions but our sources close to the party said have confirmed the development.
According to our sources, the expelled key figures include the party’s National Assembly Members for Old Yundum, Busumbala, Latrikunda, Tallinding and Sanememtereng constituencies.
At a press conference on Tuesday, the party’s administration in the Busumbala Constituency gave their ‘breakaway’ National Assembly Member, Saikouba Jarju until end of November to apologise, or face consequences.
They declared that Mr Jarju is no longer working in the interest of the party at both National Assembly and at the party levels. The constituency members alleged that while they are calling on President Barrow to respect the Coalition 2016 three years mandate agreement, Mr Jarju is supporting the constitutional five-year mandate.
