EYEAFRICA TV: Ankara, Turkey: Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan is currently in Russian on a state visit where he will hold talks with his counterpart Vladimir Putin.
President Erdogan one-day official visit will see him and President Putin lead delegation-level talks between the two countries, the presidential office said in a statement.
The visit comes few days after a Turkish convoy was nearly hit by air raids in the Syrian province of Idlib. The two sides are also expected to discuss all aspects of Turkey-Russia bilateral relations, and exchange views on regional and international issues, especially on Syria.
The Turkish president will also attend the opening of the MAKS-2019 International Aviation and Space Salon, which is one of the world’s largest aviation forums.
In June, the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Japan, where they had talks which lasted for almost an hour.
Russia and Turkey supported different sides in the Syrian civil war, causing frequent moments of friction. Relations reached their lowest ebb when Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet near its border in 2015, but have since improved.
