EYEAFRICA TV: Ankara, Turkey: Turkey’s death toll from the COVID-19 rose by 75 to 649, and new confirmed cases jumped to 30,217 on Monday, the country’s health authorities said in a statement.
Turkey performed 21,400 tests for the COVID-19 on Monday, and 3,148 of them were positive for the virus.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday announced two hospitals will be built in Istanbul as part of the government’s measures to combat the rapidly spreading coronavirus.
The hospitals, with a 1,000-bed capacity each, will be built on plots at the defunct Ataturk Airport and the Sancaktepe Military Airport and are expected to be completed within 45 days.
Erdogan also announced a ban on the sale of face masks as the country has stockpiles and is determined to deliver masks to all citizens free of charge. Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11.
