THE PETROLEUM HOUSE AT LEST 30 STAFF TEST POSITIVE OF COVID 19

Days after the Minister of Energy tested positive for the COVID-19, minister have been confirmed covid-19, the virus has been confirmed on at least 30 staff at the Petroleum House in Bijilo.

The case of the energy minister who together with two other cabinet ministers were admitted for treatment, initiated the need for mass testing of staff at the country’s Petroleum building which is also hosting the National Petroleum Company and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretariat.

Sources have informed Eyeafrica TV that, close to one hundred samples of workers in the building have been taking, out of which over 30 have so far, been confirmed position of the Covid-19.

Unlike in the cases with other institutions, the confirmation of dozens of cases didn’t see a lock-down on the operation of the ministry of petroleum. However, the neighboring OIC Secretariat and The National Petroleum Company, GNPC have both asked their staff to stay home to stay safe.

The Energy Minister is among the second set of cabinet members to test positive of the coronavirus, following the news of the Country’s Vice President admission to a treatment centre for the virus.

No further information has been made public on their status from the sanitarium although the vice president has been discharged after full recovery from the virus.

Covid-19 cases in the Gambia has relatively been under reported with the Health ministry justifying the situation with the ‘overwhelming number of samples under the management of a few technical administrators’.

Currently over one hundred healthcare workers are under treatment for the covid-19, most of who got the virus on line of duties.
