EYEAFRICA TV: Dar es Salaam, TANZANIA:-Tanzania’s President John Magufuli is reported to have flown to Kenya for coronavirus treatment as questions are being raised over his health.
Pressure is building on the Tanzanian government to disclose the whereabouts of President Magufuli after reports that the controversial East African leader had left the country to seek Covid-19 treatment abroad.
Opposition leader Tundu Lissu has told the BBC that according to his sources the president is being treated in hospital for coronavirus in Kenya. But this has not been independently confirm yet.
Magufuli who has not been seen in public for 11 days, is suspected of having coronavirus and a cardiac arrest.
He has been constantly faced criticism for his handling of Covid-19.
Tanzania’s Finance Minister Philip Mpango is also reported to be treated at the same hospital in Kenya’s capital.
The 61-year-old president has called for prayers and herbal-infused steam therapy to counter the virus.
Earlier this month, Magufuli told a gathering at a funeral for a top presidential aide that Tanzania had defeated covid-19 last year and will continue with the victory against the virus in 2021.
Tanzania has refused to track coronavirus cases, so there are no figures on how many people have fallen ill or died from the virus.
The East African nation has not published its coronavirus cases since May and refuses to buy vaccines.
In January, Magufuli warned his health ministry against rushing to adopt COVID-19 vaccines, suggesting the vaccines may not be safe or effective.
He said if the Whiteman could develop vaccines for corona why wouldn’t they do the same for HIV and AIDS, Malaria, TB and Cancer. He told officials to instead promote herbs to remedy COVID-19 symptoms.
