EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: At least seven people are reported death while several others severely injured when a truck collided with a commercial passenger car in Pirang village in Kombo East, Friday morning.Sources told Eye Africa that the truck was coming from a rock mining quarry in Bullock when it collided with the fully loaded commercial vehicle.
It is not yet confirmed what was the cause of the fatal accident but sources say five people died on spot while two others died on the way to hospital.
“It was a sock. I prepared to go to the quarry this morning when I received a call from one of my brothers that a truck from our quarry collided with a commercial vehicle and some deaths occur,” one of our sources who immediately went to the scene of the accident said.
The scene of the accident is a strategic location with a long curve. Some five years ago, another commercial vehicle had a break failure at the same point and hit a police officer who was on duty at that location.
Sources further told Eyeafrica that the Friday morning accident occured when the driver of the commercial vehicle attempt to overtake the truck which led to a collision.
The south bank of The Gambia have been witnessing several fatal accidents most of them caused by either high speeding or break failure.
