EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Police have declared a security guard of Gambia’s leading basic food commodity importer; Gamfood Trading Company ‘wanted’ after he was reported to have gotten away with a whopping amount of D2, 946, 695 -two million, nine hundred and forty-six thousand, six hundred and ninety-five dalasis- from his employer.
Sources close to police investigators told Eye Africa that Sarjo Touray disappeared with the money when he cashed a cheque that was given to him by his manager at the company’s head office to cash, on September 12. “He immediately ran away with the money when he cashed the cheque at the bank. He is now at large,” our source said.
Sources said the matter is currently under investigation by the police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who last traced his location in Farato on Saturday. He is been at large for almost a week now.
Originally from Sintet, in the Foni Jarrol district, Sarjo is said to have been working with the food importer for about 10 years. His employer lodged a complaint to the police hours after he disappeared with the money.
Our sources also confirmed that officials of the police and the CID could not still get hold of Sarjo but he has been traced at multiple locations.
He has been declared wanted by the police and investigators say anyone who had information regarding his whereabouts can contact the nearest police station.
