EYEAFRICA TV: Pozzallo, Italy: Some 104 migrants on board the Ocean Viking, a rescue ship operated by SOS Mediterranean and Doctors Without Borders, were allowed to disembark in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on Wednesday, after 11 days at sea.
Footage shows the rescue ship docking as police officers and members of the Italian Red Cross were waiting for the migrants. Several children and women can be seen getting off the boat before receiving medical treatment.
According to media reports, among the 104 rescued migrants off the coast of Libya on October 18, were 41 underage children and 10 women – two of them pregnant.
Italy announced its decision to allow the migrants to disembark on Tuesday, after France and Germany had agreed to take 70 people.
