EYEAFRICA TV: Dakar, SENEGAL: Senegal’s President Macky Sall has written a short but very comforting letter to his country’s Taranga Lions immediately after their 1-0 defeat by Colombia Thursday afternoon in the 2018 World Cup which led to their exit from the world football competition.
Senegal is the last African country to hang their boots from the tournament.
“My dear Liond, the law of sports has ended your adventure during this world competition. On the field, you have demonstrated an indisputable physical commitment, a winning mind and a unanimously acclaimed talent,” Mr. Sall wrote to the players this afternoon.
President Sall has been in Russia who is hosting this year’s world cup where he watched the Teranga Lions first two games. He was in Moscow at the invitation of the world football governing body FIFA Secretary General.
During his stay duration in Moscow, President Sall was expected to have a bilateral meeting with his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin and later a private stay in Morocco and take part in the international forum of Assilah tomorrow June 29, where he will present a communication on African integration.
President Sall congratulated the boys on behalf of the entire Senegalese people, saying “This is the place to greet your coach, our compatriot Aliou Cissé, whose performance during this part of the World was exemplary. I also greet all members of the Federation, the technical staff as well as the valiant 12th Gainde and Allez Casa.”
He celebrated what he called the boys’ triumph, telling them that they have certainly lost a battle, weapons in hand. “But the future of this great team fills us with hope and confirms that the Senegalese football is on a trajectory of excellence and a momentum of victory.”
He assured them that as they leave Russia, he reiterate his unwavering support and that of all the Senegalese people.
