President Barrow, Sall want governments to make rigorous implementation of Banjul agreements

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: At the fringes of first Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council meeting hosted in Banjul today, President Adama Barrow and President Macky Saal has called their governments to ensure rigorous and effective implementation of the recommendations that arose from the engagement to strengthen mutual ties between two neighboring countries.
At the end of the meeting, Senegal’s President Macky Sall expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Barrow, his government and the people of The Gambia for the warm and friendly welcome, and the generous hospitality accorded to him and his delegation. “Gambia is a nice and peaceful country. I want to come hear anytime I have the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the country,” Mr. Sall said at the end of the meeting.
The two presidents co-chaired the first presidential council meeting from 11th-13th March. The meeting was preceded by the meeting of experts held on 11th March and ministerial meeting held on 12th March.

The heads of state proposed to hold in Senegal, the second Presidential Council Meeting; the exact dates will be fixed mutually through diplomatic channel. President Sall witnessed the laying of the foundation stone of the Senegalese commission at Fajara before his departure.
The establishment of Senegalo-Gambian presidential Council was decided during President Adama Barrow’s visit to Senegal on in March, 2017.
Gambia’s foreign affairs minister Ousainou Darboe said the agreement between the two presidents to establish the Senegalo-Gambian presidential Council demonstrates the new dynamic that they intend to give to the relations between their countries.
He said the two Head of State also acknowledge the good work and conclusions of the preparatory meetings. These preparatory sessions examined the level of implementation of the agreements signed in 2017, review the bilateral cooperation and provide concrete actions to consolidate gains.
After the two head of State delivered their statements, they called on their respective ministers to pursue the implementation of the activities identified in the area of defense and security, justice, consular matters, free movement of people and goods, tourism, energy and environment.
The presidential council meeting was also offered the opportunity to finalise and sign agreements on the assistance to detained persons and transfer of sentenced persons, road transport, health and animal production, Cultural cooperation, sports and a memorandum of understanding in the area of higher education, research, science and technology.
