President Barrow denies GRTS government spokesperson reports

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Gambia’s president Adama Barrow has denied a report by The Gambia Radio and Television Services -GRTS- that government has appointed a new spokesperson. This was revealed by Amie Bojang-Sisoho, director of press and public relations at State House when Eye  Africs TV’s reporter posed a question to her during a press conference with journalists Wednesday morning. The country’s broadcaster reported last week that the president has appointed Mr. Ebrima G. Sankareh as government spokesperson under the powers vested in him by the Gambian Constitution. The announcement of the new appointment was received with a public criticism with people asking what the responsibility of the information minister and director of press and public relations will be. The broadcaster reported that in his capacity as spokesperson, Mr Sankareh will be responsible for the implementation of public and media relation programmes for the government and will also be responsible for implementing government’s communication policies and strategies and shall in collaboration with other Ministries ensure adequate coverage and exposure of the government and its policies to the people of The Gambia in line with the constitution and the aspiration of the National Development Plan.  But the general public suspicion is that GRTS couldn’t report that issue with quations from constitutional provisions without receiving the notice from the presidency.
