EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: National Assembly Public enterprise committee has given up to 31 August 2020 to the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) to present their activity report and financial statement of years ending 31 December 2018 and 31 December 2019 before the committee.
Officials of the country’s water and electricity powerhouse appeared before the committee Friday where they gave several constraints for their lack of presenting the reports, including issues with their accounts that require to be properly sanitized.
Chairman of the Public enterprise committee, Halifa Sallah, who is also the national Assembly member for Serrekunda told the Nawec official s that they are giving them until 31 August 2020, to put together both their activity and financial reports 2018 and 2019 and put an end to the back lock. Mr Sallah emphasised that as they move in to 31 December 2021, the committee will be looking into the year ended 31 December 2020.
Nawec officials also said the number of qualified people in the company’s finance department is a constraint that led them to appoint a consultant to sanitize the accounts, saying NAWEC has been facing many challenges which made it difficult for them to comply with their constitutional reporting obligations.
Mr Sallah told the NAWEC officials that if they succeed in meeting up to the deadline given to them, it will mean that each public enterprise will now strive to complete their activity report and financial statement for the year ended 31st December 2020.
