EYEAFRICA TV: Dakar, SENEGAL: Bubacarr Sall’s 51st minute goal sealed victory for Rufisque as they beat AS Goree 1-0 in the final of the Coupe de Senegal on Sunday.
The triumph means the Teungueth Football Club will represent Senegal in the CAF Confederations Cup preliminary rounds.
The Coupe de Senegal is the Gambian trios first trophy in Senegal.
Both Madi Fatty and Saikou Conteh came in the second half whilst Gibril Sillah who is Toulouse FC bound started at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies.
The Fortune FC coach Jane Joof was in the stands and was pleased to witness the final.
“Senegalese ligue1 is a very interesting league to watch, because it’s very competitive. I have watched Teungueth vs Jaaraf where I saw both Madi Fatty and Gibril Sillah perform very well. It’s an honour to watch three Gambians players in the final, all featured in the FA Cup. Coming from the Gambia to play in Senegal is good for our players, it gives them competition. Senegal is a gateway for our players. If the players have the opportunity, let them try their luck. It’s football, you never know too. What I see here am fully impressed and it’s good for our players because every time they come here, they deliver.” He Joof stated.
Gibril Sillah, one of Teungueth’s FC star players reacted in the midst of celebration as dawn drew closer in Dakar. “It’s my happiest moment, all praise is due to Allah. It’s a milestone to win a trophy in your first season, the club have been asking for a trophy and just to be in the group that delivers the club’s target is really massive”. Sillar emphasized.
This is Teungueth’s FC first Coupe de Senegal since 1977 after losing the 1988 final against Linguere and in 2006 against Ouakam.
