EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Lead Investigator of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) has tendered resignation after one year of service to the commission.
Eye Africa understands that the outgoing Lead Investigator, Alhagie Barrow will leave together with his wife, Deputy Lead Counsel, Horoja Bala Gaye who has been recalled by the International Criminal Court as deputy counsel to the court.
Mr Barrow announced on Facebook on Monday evening that his resignation will be effective on the 15th of December.
“Please note that I am resigning for personal and professional reasons”, he said, noting that he is grateful for the opportunity to have worked with the commission.
Executive Secretary to the Commission confirmed that Barrow who is leaving on personal grounds will continue to serve as adviser to the commission.
The two got married in May, five months after the official start of public hearings.
The TRRC was launched to investigate human rights violations under exiled former president Yahya Jammeh. After one year of public hearings, the commission has taken a month-long break during which it will produce a preliminary report in January.
