EYEAFRICA TV: Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya has recorded an increase of 8 positive cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours bringing the number of those infected to 50 by Monday.
The development coming as the infection trajectory estimates that the cases may top as many as 10,000 at the end of April. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, regretted that the disease is now officially communally transmitted as all the 8 new cases were from local contacts. According to health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe, the 8 cases are spread out in various counties in the country. Tracing of contacts of the 50 cases is ongoing with 1,474 people already being monitored.
The worsening situation has prompted the government to tighten prevention measures and boda riders will be required to carry only one passenger at a time to maintain a semblance of social distance and together with their passengers wear masks. All employers will be required to release their employees by 4pm from their workstations and the government is now discouraging rural urban travel to shield the high-risk aging population.
