EYEAFRICA TV: Luanda, Angola: The signing of the contracts was initialed between the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Hirorori Sawada, with officials from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) linked to the demining work in the provinces of Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte and Moxico.
For the demining work, NGO MAG, which operates in the province of Moxico, received US $ 647,059 and the NGO APACOMINAS, which operates in Moxico, US $ 442,650.The amount will also serve to support a project to build a school in the province of Luanda.
The NGO APN, which intervenes in the province of Cuanza Norte, received US $ 282,540, while the Arnaldo Jansem Reception Center received US $ 137,376 for the construction of a school.
On the occasion, Ambassador Hirorori Sawada said that Angola faces the challenge of reaching the goal of being free of mines by 2025 and Japan has always supported this purpose, through financing, equipping, training and technology transfer.
“With the agreements signed today, cooperation with Angola in this field is estimated at more than USD 14 million, invested in 27 demining projects. Demining is an important factor in relaunching economic activity, especially agriculture, in the country. With the project to build a new school, Japan has already financed the construction of 70 schools in Angola since 1990,” said Hirorori Sawada, Japanese ambassador to Angola.
The execution of these demining projects, stresses, will guarantee the safety of transporting people and goods from the local population, transforming the mined areas into arable land, with the hope that the projects will contribute to the renewal of data on the demining plan. in the country and the improvement of schooling conditions around the city of Luanda.
“This help from the government of Japan will help the country in its sustainable development, creating greater security for the population and better circulation,” said the manager of Norwegian people’s Aid
The provinces of Cuando Cubango, Moxico, Bié and Cuanza Sul are the most affected by mines.
“We are very happy with help from this country of the rising sun, this will help the populations in general, very affected by the mines and not only, we hope that other countries can help Angola in this sense” said the representative responsible for demining of Cuanza.
The Government of Japan has supported the implementation of 66 projects in the demining, agriculture, health and education sectors, through the community projects and human security assistance program, since 1990, totaling US $ 12 million (10.7 millions of euros).
