Impeached Again: Trump is impeached over “incitement of insurrection”

EYEAFRICA TV: Washington DC, USA:- President Donald Trump is impeached again after lawmakers in the House of Representatives passed the threshold of votes needed to impeach him.

This time Trump is impeached for his role in “incitement of insurrection” leading to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

What this means is that, he will be the first president in the U.S. history to be impeached twice.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled that he’s in favor of impeachment, but won’t agree to bring back Senate early for trial.

McConnell said there would be no chance of “fair” trial until after Trump leaves.

Meaning Trump will stay in office and likely finish out his term because it takes a Senate conviction to remove him, even after he’s been impeached.

Eye Africa TV’s Foreign Affairs Correspondent, Salim Saidy who has been monitoring the situation said the move could put Trump’s future political ambitions in jeopardy.

“If he is successfully convicted at the U.S. Senate later this month, Trump could be bared from running for President again. It could in fact be an end to Trumpism,” he added.

Ten Republicans joined their Democratic colleagues in voting in favor of the impeachment resolution.

However, after two-thirds of senators present voted to remove Trump, a simple majority of senators present would have to approve an additional vote to bar him from the presidency in the future.

The likelihood of Trump getting impeached at the Senate is very high since the Democrats will be in control with a 50+1 to 50 margin when Joe Biden takes office.
