EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA:- The police probe into Gunjur immigration post attack has led to the arrest of 8 more suspects, the police said Friday.
“A total of 8 suspects have been arrested in connection to the unwarranted attack on the newly inaugurated Immigration post at Gunjur,” the police said in a statement.
“The arrested suspects are: Momodou Barry, Momodou Yerro Gaye and Amadou Wurry Jallow all Conakry Guineans. Carlos Sambou and Domingo Manneh Bissau Guineans. Muhammed Silva, Lamin Jarju and Banjul Sanyang all Gambians.”
According to the police, further investigations revealed that the attack was conducted during early hours of Friday 9th April 2021 at 02:00 hours.
The assailants, the dispatch continued, were armed with sticks, cutlasses and a single barrel rifle. “Several knives and cutlasses were recovered from one of the suspects,” it said.
Earlier last week, the police arrested 39 suspects, including some individuals identified as part of the attackers.
The move comes following an attack on immigration officers stationed at a beach post in Gunjur by 10 unidentified armed men, barely 3 days after the inauguration of the said post.
The incident left two officers critically wounded, and were subsequently hospitalized at the Gunjur Health Center.
