EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: The Gambia Press Union (GPU) and the media fraternity is in somber mood as the tragic death of journalist Sise Sawaneh is being reported on Wednesday afternoon.
She died in a car accident along the south Bank road in Kiang together with the second vice president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) youth wing, Muhammed Papa Touray and brother Saikou Touray. They are reported to have been traveling to Jara Soma to attend a third division football final between a Sarahuleh team from Basse call Wagadugu and Jara West.
“Until her death, Sise works as a reporter at the Gambia Radio and Television Services. She previously worked at various media organisations, including The Standard, Today Newspaper and Star FM”, the Union said in a release.
She is hailed as committed and hardworking in addition to other qualities of being “a wonderful human being and an excellent professional.”
Two days prior to her death, Sise had a plan to gather the communities in her Sarahuleh locality with the aim to foster reconciliation among them following incidents of fight over caste system.
“There is so much we can do, there is so much we can give, there is so much we can contribute and there is so much we can discuss at community level,” she tweeted on Sunday.
On the same tweet, she invited residents of Garawol and Koina for a community dialogue on peace and reconciliation.
