EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Gambia Action Party (GAP) Monday unveiled a one-time Gambian Deputy Ambassador to Russia as its flagbearer for the country’s 2021 Presidential election, saying he was chosen to lead the party because he lived an honorable and honest life.
In a press statement in which they failed to mention his name, the party praised Bojang, saying he possesses classical traits of a leader, with honesty, fairness, robust, smart, kind, sincere, well-mannered and has experience.
It is the newest political party in The Gambia, registered with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) this July.
Many political commentators had earlier said that the party leader and Secretary General Musa Yali Batchilly may not become the flag-bearer due to several legal battles that he has been involved in recently.
“If you are with him, you will quickly notice that he does not tell his subordinates to go and he will meet them there but rather he leads and they follow. His decision making processes is always others first and self-last and he champions selfless services as a condition to make the less privileged and voiceless seen and known,” the Party said of Mr. Bojang.
He is a career former army officer and Diplomat. Bojang is said to have also served as consular at The Gambian Consulate in Jeddah during former President Yahya Jammeh’s regime but was sacked and later reinstated by President Barrow to serve as Deputy Ambassador to Russia.
The Party said Mr Bojang believes that The Gambia is a land where men and women are equal under the law and all people must be respected, regardless of how they live, how they look or their social inclinations. “He understands the beauty of our beloved country which is endowed with many races, faiths and customs.”
Born on 5th of January, 1969 in the Kombo South coastal community of Brufut, some 16km from Gambia’s capital, Banjul, Mr Bojang took his first Foreign Service as duty at The Gambian Embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and few years later he was appointed as the Consul General in Jeddah and charge with coordination of Hajj matters and others.
