Gambia’s positive COVID-19 pandemic cases still at 3

EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: Gambia’s health minister Dr. Ahmad Lamin Samateh have told journalists at his Friday briefing on COVID-19 situation in the country that the number of people who are tested positive of the virus still remain at three with one probable case.

Minister Samateh also said samples have been collected from contacts of the Numuyel case and the compound remain under quarantine. ‘However, front-line health workers are in dialogue with the community. All three confirm cases were imported.’

The probable case is a 47-year-old Bangladeshi man who is reported to have presented at the health facility with mild pneumonia like symptoms.

Health ministry’s director of health promotion and education Modou Njie, Thursday said samples have been obtained from the man and they are now waiting for the results.

Health Minister Samateh said the first and second case-patients are responding to medical treatment. ‘Currently we have 215 people on quarantine 57 tests were conducted out of which three were positive. Let us send the preventive messages so that we can all be protected and maintain the social distancing.’

He appealed for the cooperation of the general public in helping in the contact tracing, reminding Gambians that COVID-19 pandemic is a reality and people should not be complacent about it.
