EYEAFRICA TV: Kanifing, THE GAMBIA:-The Kanifing Municipal Council has recorded a 100% revenue jump from D112M to D221M over the past two and half years, the council’s Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda said on Monday.
“General Council is held today where I presented jump in revenue from D112million in Dec 2017 before the council took office to D221million as of December 2020 exceeding revenue projections of D213million. This is a 100% jump over a two and half year period,” Mayor Bensouda said in a Facebook post.
According to him, this was an all-round effort and “I congratulate the Councillors, Staff and Committee members for their hard work and oversight of revenue units that has limited leakages and boosted income in a very difficult year.”
“Revenues will see more positive jumps over the coming years due to Council investments in PPPs and also investment in the highly anticipated addressing and digital revenue collection system.
“The projected income budget of 2020 is almost D300million with a planned development budget of almost D200million.”
However due to an economic downturn caused by the global pandemic, cash flow management is a priority and austerity measures will be considered, he said.
