Gambia: A 5-day training for another 40 young people on general entrepreneurship begins in Bakau

EYEAFRICA TV: Bakau, THE GAMBIA:- The Ministry of Youth and Sports through the National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI) today begins a five-day training for 40 young people on General Entrepreneurship.

The training organized by NEDI for the youth of Kanifing Municipality is being held at Nana Conference hall in Bakau.

In his opening remarks, Mr Saikou  K.  Sanyang, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports said as part of the government’s strategic intervention his ministry and satellite institutions are trying to build and develop the capacities of young people in the areas of entrepreneurship development to create employment opportunities for the youth and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the country to become self-employed and job creators.

PS Sanyang said NEDI is the agency under the ministry responsible for youth entrepreneurship development, as one of its mandates is to ensure the entrepreneurship training programs are rolled out to all the regions targeting potential and existing youth entrepreneurs.

Madam Juldeh Ceesay, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs said to reduce poverty and improve the well-being of its citizenry; the government has approved the Youth and Sports development levy to generate a responsive development roadmap linked to the National Development Plan (NDP).

Mr Abass Bah, General Manager of the National Enterprise Development Initiative urged the participants to prioritize the training and make use of knowledge gained as the government has spent a lot of finance on the training of young entrepreneurs.
