FORMER JANJAWEED REBEL COMMANDER SURRENDERS TO THE ICC

Former Janjaweed rebel commander implicated for war crimes in Dafur is in the custody of the International Criminal Court after surrendering himself in the Central African Republic on Wednesday.

Ali Kushayb had been issued with arrest warrant by the ICC in April 2007 for alleged crimes against humanity.

His initial appearance before the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber II is expected in due course.
