EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBI:- Effective 8th March, 2021, The Gambia government will suspend police permit for all categories of social and political events as the country faces increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
The new measures according to the government spokesperson, is in the light of the worrisome trajectory of a new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The ban applies to ‘all forms’ of social gatherings, including parties, music festivals and political events.
“Conscious of the dfficulties associated with the COVID-19 restrictions and the time required to prepare for any unforeseen circumstances, The Gambia Government will in due course, outline a more detailed statement governing the upcoming restrictions and their regulations,” government’s mouthpiece, Ebrima G. Sankareh said.
“Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health urges members of the public to adhere to the basic COVID-19 protocols of proper wearing of face masks, social distancing, regular hand washing and limited gatherings,” the release adds.
As of 16th February, The Gambia has registered 55 new COVID-19 cases and 11 recoveries, bringing the total number of COVID-19 active cases to 419.
The total confirmed cases in the country is 4,469, while the death toll at the moment is 138.
