The West African economic bloc, ECOWAS, has renewed its call for a civilian transition in Mali, after a meeting with the military junta in Ghana failed to yield a positive outcome.
The Accra meeting hosted by the ECOWAS chairperson Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana was expected to provide an opportunity for a breakthrough but the parties couldn’t reach an agreement.
The bloc said sanctions imposed on Mali will be lifted when the military relinquish power to a civilian leadership.
