EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA:- The Gambia’s narcotic agents have seized more than five hundred blocks of cannabis weighing over 225 kg, an operation officials say is unprecedented in the history of The Gambia.
The agency said in a statement that the operation took place on Sunday 20th December 2020, barely a week before the seizure of 118 bags of cocaine at Banjul’s seaport.
Prior to the seizure, operatives of Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday 10th December 2020, seized twenty six blocks of cannabis at the residence of one Mr. Bai Modou Njie, a Gambian and resident of TAF Brufut Gardens.
Mr Njie was also found with a pistol with five live rounds. Initial findings revealed that the cannabis seized from Njie was sourced from the consignment of hashish seized on 20th December 2020.
Officials say investigation into the matter is ongoing. Mr Ousman Kanteh, Mr Sedia Ndow, and Mr Ebrima Bittaye are the three individuals arrested in connection with the said cannabis and are currently helping the authorities in their investigations.
