Dr Philip Saine, a Christian and a Public Health Specialist, has expressed concerns over President Adama Barrow’s declaration of the Muslim New Year as a public holiday, where the same significance was not accorded to Sang Marie, a Christian feast which preceded the Muslim New Year.
This decision has raised concerns from Christians and even some Muslims on Social Media and sparked a fresh debate about double standards or preferential treatment of one faith over another by the Gambian government.
