EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Thursday advised foreign reporters not to travel to Wuhan City, capital of central China’s Hubei Province, because of the outbreak of the coronavirus-related pneumonia in the city.
The ministry’s spokesman Geng Shuang said that China understands foreign reporters have paid close attention to the epidemics. And over the past few days, Geng said, he has also been briefed on the situation many times, which should be helpful to the understanding of the epidemics and the progress of prevention and control.
“In the next step, we will continue to release relevant information in a timely manner and respond to external concerns in accordance with the principles of openness and transparency. Everyone should have noticed that in order to better prevent and control the epidemic, the Wuhan city government already publicly announced on Jan. 21 (Tuesday) that people from outside Wuhan should not go to Wuhan in the near future,” said Geng.
The spokesman said the headquarters for the prevention and control of pneumonia infected by the novel coronavirus in Wuhan has suspended the operation of buses, subways, ferries and coaches in the city earlier Thursday, asking residents not to leave Wuhan without special reasons, as the airport and railway stations will be temporarily closed.
“We hope that foreign reporters will understand the current situation in Wuhan, understand the measures taken by Wuhan to prevent and control the epidemic, and listen carefully to their suggestions. In fact, this is good for everyone. As far as I know, some foreign reporters have already gone to Wuhan for covering news. For those foreign reporters who are already in Wuhan, please abide by the relevant local regulations and obey the relevant arrangements, and at the same time, they must keep a good personal hygiene with protections so as to prevent cross infections,” Geng said.
Geng then added that he reminded all reporters to take care of their personal health and keep protected from the epidemic.
