EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China is willing to play an active role in safeguarding peace and stability of the Middle East, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.
The spokesman Geng Shuang said at a press briefing that China is keeping close touch with countries along the Persian Gulf in various fields.
“After the drastic change in the Persian Gulf situations, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi immediately held phone conversations with foreign ministers of several other countries. He exchanged views on the current situations with them and called on all parties to remain calm and restrained so as to cool down the situations as soon as possible. Meanwhile, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China has also kept close touch with relevant parties in the Security Council and calls on the Security Council to assume the primary responsibility of protecting world peace and security,” Geng said.
“As I said just now, China is concerned about the latest development and calling on all sides to exercise restraint. We also hope all parties can settle their disputes and conflicts in peaceful ways such as dialogue and negotiations. China and countries along the Persian Gulf have close cooperation in all fields including economy, trade, investment and infrastructure construction. Our cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative is productive and has brought real benefits to people in China and countries in the Gulf region,” Geng said.
