EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China urges authorities of the Taiwan region to stop politicizing the COVID-19 epidemic, according to a spokesman of the Chinese foreign ministry in Beijing on Thursday.
Zhao Lijian, the spokesman, told a press briefing that China opposes any attempt to use the epidemic for purpose of politicization or stigmatization, and strongly condemns the personal attacks and racist words and deeds from Taiwan region against Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization.
The spokesman said that under the leadership of Director-General Tredos, the WHO has played an important role in assisting countries’ responses to the epidemic and promoting international anti-epidemic cooperation by actively fulfilling its responsibilities and upholding an objective, science-based and unbiased stance, which has been widely recognized and highly praised by the international community. China supports the WHO in continuing to play a leading role in global anti-epidemic cooperation.
“We hope that the Taiwan authorities will not politicize the epidemic or engage in political manipulation,” said Zhao.
