EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China is upright and unselfish in its cooperation with Africa, and the United States should view the China-Africa cooperation objectively and fairly, said Geng Shuang, spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a press briefing in Beijing on Monday.
Geng made the remarks in response to the U.S. government’s Chief Technology Officer Michael Kratsios’ words at the Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, when he continuously dissuaded other countries from using Huawei devices, claiming that the Chinese government had been using Huawei telecom equipment to steal data from the African Union (AU) over the past five years.
Geng said that since last year, the western media have repeatedly hyped the case of China spying on the AU headquarters, and many African countries’ leaders and the Chairman of the AU have openly refuted this fallacy. The so-called Chinese eavesdropping on the AU headquarters is pure fake news fabricated by western media. It has already been thrown into the dustbin by African friends, Geng said.
“The U.S. officials ignore this fact and once again hype China’s use of Huawei to steal data of the AU, which is totally out of ulterior motives and shameful. It is worth mentioning that for a long time, the United States has planned and organized to spy on foreign governments, enterprises and individuals, which has long been an open secret. The U.S. still owes the world an explanation,” said Geng.
“China and Africa are good friends, good partners and good brothers. China is upright and unselfish in its cooperation with Africa. At the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the United Nations and other occasions, many leaders of African countries have praised the bilateral pragmatic and effective cooperation and fruitful achievements made by China and Africa, saying that China is the most reliable partner for Africa’s development and revitalization,” said Geng.
Geng reiterated China’s stance on the issue.
“We hope that the U.S. will adopt a right attitude and view China-Africa cooperation objectively and fairly. Fabricating lies and vilifying others can only damage the U.S. own credibility, which will only lead to self-humiliation. At last, I would like to reiterate that China is firmly opposed to the U.S. rumors and African friends will not accept them. As I said before, I hope the U.S. side will not overestimate its ability to spread rumors or underestimate the judgment of others,” said Geng.
