EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China reports a total of 5,974 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) by the end of Tuesday, according to the National Health Commission(NHC) data released on Wednesday.
The NHC starts to give the latest data on pneumonia cases twice a day from Wednesday, one at 08:00 and the other at 15:00.
“As of 24:00 Tuesday, the NHC received 5,974 reports of confirmed cases from all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. A total of 1,239 patients were in critical conditions, and 132 people died of the disease while 103 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery. Currently there are 9,239 suspected cases. A total of 65,537 people with close contacts with suspected patients had been traced, 1,604 were relieved from medical observation on Tuesday, with 59,990 others still under medical observation. A total of eight confirmed cases had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, seven in the Macao Special Administrative Region and eight in Taiwan,” said Mi Feng, spokesman of Chinese National Health Commission.
According to information on the NHC’s website, 1,459 new confirmed cases were reported in 31 provincial-level regions on Tuesday, with 3,248 new suspected cases (including one in the Tibet Autonomous Region) added.
