China rejects US human rights report, urges US to stop interfering in its internal affairs

EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday rejected the U.S. “human rights report on China” and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s remarks on China’s human rights conditions and Xinjiang policy, saying that they’re filled with political lies and ideological prejudice.

Geng Shuang, spokesman for the ministry, urged the U.S. to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs against the background that the U.S. State Department released the “2019 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: China” on Wednesday, and Pompeo criticized China’s human rights conditions.

“The China-related content of the so-called U.S. Country Reports on Human Rights Practices is a mere repetition of old rhetoric, which disregards facts and confounds the right with the wrong. This report and the speech of Pompeo are full of political lies and ideological bias, which we firmly oppose,” said Geng at a routine news briefing.

The Chinese government has attached great importance to the protection and promotion of human rights. China has made great achievements in human rights since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The human rights situation in China has entered the best period in history. The Chinese people have the most say in this and the international community has witnessed it. This is not to be denigrated by some U.S. officials’ words or a report, according to the spokesman.

“Xinjiang affairs are purely China’s internal affairs that brook no external forces to interfere. The Chinese government’s counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures in Xinjiang are being carried out according to law. These efforts have won the support and endorsement from people of all ethnic groups, as well as high acknowledgment and positive response from the international community. The U.S. has no right to make unwarranted remarks,” said Geng.

“We urge the United States to reflect on and correct its wrongdoings, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights. Otherwise, it will only be met with stronger opposition of the Chinese people,” said the spokesman.
