EYEAFRICA TV: Beijing, China: China calls on the relevant parties to cherish the recent easing of tensions on the Korean Peninsula, Zhao Lijian, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a press conference when asked to comment on the unidentified projectiles launched by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday.
According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), DPRK fired two unidentified projectiles into the eastern waters on Monday. The JCS said in a statement that the projectiles were launched near the DPRK’s east coastal town of Wonsan toward the East Sea at about 12:37 local time.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged all relevant parties to exercise restraint.
“The current situation on the Korean Peninsula is at a critical time. China calls on all parties to cherish the hard-won amelioration, resolve issues through dialogue and negotiations, and make positive efforts to achieve denuclearization and sustainable peace on the peninsula and in the region,” Zhao said.
