EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, The Gambia: The Gambia’s Cabinet convened a special meeting to discussed the 2020 budget estimates to pave a way for the development plans and priorities on Tuesday.
Featured in the discussion was the concept of a National Health Insurance that hopes to guarantee affordable health care for vulnerable families.
A dispatch from statehouse described the meeting as consistent with the Gambia’s constitution specifying the mandate of government to submit estimates of the next budget at least one month before end of year to the National Assembly.
The health insurance will be critically looked at by the Ministry of Finance to ensure its applicability to the target groups in a real life situation.
The Draft 2020 Budget was generated from the concept of the National Development Plan which carries detailed forecasts in terms of economic growth, and inflation.
Cabinet, according to the statehouse press, approved a four-year paper on Medium Term Economic Fiscal Framework as presented by the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs.
The document outlines expenditures reflecting government’s policy priorities over the medium term aligned with the National Development Plan.
