The country’s electoral commission announced on Thursday in a press statement that it has approved the registration of the party, making it the newest party to join The Gambia’s political arena just two days after the registration of President Adama Barrow’s own National Peoples Party, this week.
“The Independent Electoral Commission hereby wishes to notify the public that having met the requirements for registration under Section 105 of the Elections Act 2009 (as amended), a new party; Gambia For Party has this 2nd of January, 2020 been duly registered as a bona fide political party,” the statement said.
Mr Darbo had served in several positions under Sir Dawda Jawara’s government, including minister of education, youth, sports and culture from 1987-1992. Upon returning from exile in the UK, Darbo requested to continue leadership role of the People’s Progressive Party during the party congress 2018 but lose the contest.
The new party has its Secretariat at Majanko House, Black 6A in Kanifing Estate. It is distinguished with a Light Blue (top three quarters) and Gold (bottom one quarter), with a Swarm of bees on wings featured at the top right-hand corner with a corn cob in the middle as symbol.
The formal registration of Gambia For All brings the total number of political parties in the country to thirteen, out of which three registered in 2019.
