EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Gambia’s president Adama Barrow led governemt is currently holding a cabinet meeting, perhaps the second one that is known to the public since he came to power last Decrmber.
At the meeting, the country’s security situation is expected to dominate, including the recent Kanilai- Ecomig force confrontation that led to the death of a middle-aged man.
Diplomacy is also an important aspect that president Barrow and his cabinet are expected to discuss.
President Barrow become the tiny West African nation’s third president after defeating former president Yahya Jammeh in the last December 1 election. Mr. Jammeh came to power through a coup in 1994, ousting the first president Dawda Jawara who ruled the country from independence to 1994.
Two weeks ago, President Barrow returned from Liberia’s capital Monrovia where he attended the 53rd ordinary session of the Ecowas Head of state. At the Monrovia meeting, Ecowas Head of State extended the Ecomig force mandate in The Gambia from six months to one year, apparently due to the security situation the country.
