EYEAFRICA TV: Banjul, THE GAMBIA: Following the reopening of the Bakoteh dump site, residents of the area have been expressing their dismay with the resumption of dumping activities at the site which continues to pose serious health hazards. Some have lost family members due to health complications synonymous with the dump site.
After 4 months of its closure by residents living around the site, authorities ordered for the reopening of the site and since then it has been business as usual. We caught up with the Minister for Local Government and Lands Hon. Lamin Dibba who urged to people of the area to be law abiding and be patient with government while informing us that The Gambia government two weeks ago signed an agreement with an international investment group for the recycling of waste at the dump site which could generate electricity and other life enhancing commodities. The details of the said agreement will be made public in the coming according to the minister.
Meanwhile, the people of the area continue to plead with authorities to find an immediate temporal solution.
