AUC Chairperson: Zimbabwe Situation must be Address According to Constitution

EYEAFRICA TV: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) has urged stakeholders to address the current situation in Zimbabwe according to the country’s constitution and the relevant instruments of the African Union, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.
Moussa Faki Mahamat said he is closely following the developments in Zimbabwe, stressing that it is crucial that the crisis is resolved in a manner that promotes democracy and human rights, as well as the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe.
Mr. Mahamat expressed African Union commitment to working closely with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the leaders of the region and to support their efforts. “In this regard, the African Union associates itself with the statement made by President Jacob Zuma of South Africa on behalf of SADC.”
