ARRESTED FOR CONGREGATION PRAYERS, IMAAM RECOMMENDS REOPENING OF MOSQUES

Muslims all over the world after fasting for a period of one month in fulfilment of the fourth pillars of Islam, the holy month of Ramadan, observed Eid al fitr in a very different way.

 

A few religious leaders including the imam of Brufut Madina Sawareh, Momodou Lamin Sawaneh got arrested for leading congregation for the Eid-Ul-Fitr in what the police described as defiance to public orders.

After confirmation of the first case of COVID-19 in the Gambia, president Adama barrow declared a state of public emergency which imposed restrictions on public transport, commerce and social adventures.

The measures according to government are intended to control the spread of the coronavirus global pandemic.

 

But the religious scholar maintained claims of innocence as he speak to Eyeafrica TV afterwards.
